The activists of Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) of India staged a protest in front of Deputy Commissioners office on Saturday condemning the attacks taking place on the student community across the district in the recent days. A large number of students took part in the demonstration holding placards that read “Break the silence, stop the violence”- the theme of the SIO campaign. Addressing the protesters, SIO State President Showkat Ali K said the assaults on the innocent did not reflect the capacity of the attackers but their cowardness and weakness. “Violence has never been victorious. It is only love and reconciliation that can win the wars,” he noted. Referring to the recent incident in Puttur where two members of the organisation were beaten up allegedly by some Hindutva activists, Ali said if the members had followed rules while pasting the posters, they can be fined as per law, but assaulting them is objectionable.
