SIO Condemns State Govt's move on Private Universities

Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO)- Karnataka Zone condemns the move by the Karnataka State Government for permitting the establishment of 3 private Universities in the State. In a Memorandum to the Honorable Governor of Karnataka, Mr. Asim Khan the Secretary of Public Relations- Karnataka Zone stated,

"The decision by government to create three more private universities in Karnataka is unacceptable.
By promoting private universities, the government is trying to shrug off from its fundamental duty of
providing quality education to the economically weaker section of the society. We are very well aware
of the situation of government universities that lack quality education, are marred with corruption
and infighting between the top management. It is unfortunate that the government, instead of taking
steps to improve the quality of government universities which are affordable to students coming from
economically weaker section, is interested in promoting private universities.

With such neglectful attitude of the government, going forward, the students of government
universities will find it difficult to match up to the standards of highly profitable business oriented
private universities, resulting in Government universities being less preferred for campus placements.
Hence, Government universities will see a drop in students and further neglection by the state.

It is reasonably understood, if private universities are set up in Bangalore, only children of rich parents
will be able to meet the high cost of food, transport and accommodation in Bangalore. The presence of
a university or its affiliated college in Bangalore rural will also shoot up the cost of real estate, which will
only benefit builders and landlords.

Considering the interest of economically poor students, Students Islamic Organization of India
– Karnataka zone humbly request you to reject the private university bill and in turn advise the
government to setup government universities in each district headquarter."
